Winter Wonderland

Some of Washington County, including Calais and the surrounding communities, got pummeled by snow and rain last week. Other parts of the county, including Eastport and Machias, reported just a dusting. In celebration of the winter wonderland, several snowmen families cropped up around Calais.

Pre-K/Kindergarten:  Throughout the school year, our classroom has been listening to music by Rick Charette.  We were very excited to meet Mr. Charette in person when the Charlotte School invited us to their school to see him.

Alden E. Clark, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2012. Alden was born December 26, 1921 in Calais, the son of Willis and Annie (Brown) Clark. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (Dinsmore) Clark in 1987 and a grandson, Kirk Clark, in 2009.


Calais – Kenneth Gregory Manship, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 with his loving wife by his side at a Bangor hospital.  Kenny was born in Caribou on January 19, 1932, son of the late Clinton and Ellen (Noonan) Manship.  He graduated from Calais Memorial High School in 1951 and served in the Army National Guard.  Kenny worked for Georg


BAILEYVILLE – Kyle Robert Cox, 47, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Friday, November 30, 2012.  He was born to Edward and Jenny (Newlends) Cox in Calais on May 15, 1965.  He attended Woodland High, graduating class of 1984 and was proud to have been a lifelong resident of Woodland.  Kyle served his country as an Army Airborne Ranger, he wor

Washington Academy had a great day of wrestling Saturday Dec. 1st at the PVHS Pre-Season 8 team tournament in Howland. Most of the WA’s student wrestlers were taking the SAT’s, but the few who made it had a great showing.
