A Story and a Recipe

This last spell of cold weather reminded me of the stories my folks used to tell about “the old days.”  According to them, the winters were more severe;  the snow banks were higher; the cold was colder and every winter lasted longer than the winter before.

UMM to Host Forum on Gun Rights, School Security, Mental Health, and Culture

MACHIAS, Maine – Amid national debate over gun control following the deadly Newtown, Conn., school shooting, the University of Maine at Machias will host a public discussion on policy issues relating to gun rights, school security, mental health, and culture. The forum will take place at 6:30 p.m.

JUANITA M. PANTANELLA

Princeton – Juanita M. Pantanella, 99, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at a Lincoln nursing home.  Juanita was born in Calais on June 19, 1913.  She owned and operated Lakeview Theater in Princeton and enjoyed playing Beano, working in the yard, traveling.

MICHAEL W. MILBURN

Calais – Michael William Milburn, 61, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 28, 2013 in Calais.  Michael was born in Calais on May 13, 1951, son of the late Alvin and Priscilla (Chambers) Milburn.  He attended Woodland High School and worked at Georgia Pacific for one year, and started M&M Contractors, which is now owned and operated by his son.

WCCC Frosty Fun in February Day

CALAIS - The Frosty Fun in February Day is back and the Washington County Community College staff is gearing up and planning an exciting day for everyone.

The annual event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.

This week Troop J responded to 111 calls for service. The following are noteworthy complaints:

Trooper Kim Sawyer assisted Border Patrol in the parking lot of the Princeton Circle K. As a result, Trooper Sawyer summonsed Michael S. Blash (31) for OAS Class E.

1-23-13

Calais Police Report

Corey Smith, 21, of Robbinston was arrested 1/22/13 on North Street for violations of conditions of release.

Jenna Hicks, 22, of Calais was summonsed 1/23/13 on Monroe Street for sale use of drug paraphernalia.

Jenna Hicks, 22, of Calais was summonsed 1/23/13 on Monroe Street for possession of usable amount of marijuana.
