CHS Security Upgrade

After the events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut back in December School Security has been a subject on everyone’s mind. But even before the tragedy Calais High School and other area schools have been looking into what security in the schools means. 

“Meet Your Downtown Neighbor” event is Friday, Feb. 8 at Rejuvenation Day Spa

Rejuvenation Day Spa is hosting this month’s “Meet Your Downtown Neighbor” event on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. This open house offers people, especially those that work during the daytime, a chance to become acquainted with the business and the people who operate it.    The Spa is located on Main Street next to Kendall Jewelers.

To The Editor:

Well, it’s about that time again.  Soon there will be cars and buses traveling west to Bangor for the last time to invade the soon to be “old” Bangor Auditorium.  It can be an exciting time for us fans.  I mean, who wouldn’t want their team to come home with a gold ball?  After all, isn’t that the goal for all teams?

We are back to the bitter cold and snow on the ground but during the warm spell we managed to dig out the rest of the Christmas ornaments from the front lawn. Ralph also washed the car.

An estimated one billion Valentine cards are purchased each year, according to the greeting card association. 85% are purchased by women.

New moon is on February 10th. St. Eulalie is on the 12th. If the sun smiles on St. Eulalie’s Day, it is good for apples and cider, they say.

Troy Ramsdell and I had the honor presenting the Colors at the Memorial service for Chief Michael Milburn last Thursday at the WCCC gymnasium. It was a very emotional service. He will be sadly missed within the community. 

UMaine Dean’s List

ORONO - The University of Maine recognized 2,035 students for achieving Deans List honors in the Fall 2012 semester. Of the students who made the Deans List, 1,696 are from Maine, 277 are from out of state, and 62 are from foreign countries.

STANDISH, ME-  The following local residents earned their degree at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.

Jodi Calder of Perry, Maine, graduated in December with a Master of Science in Education.

Erin Guire of Baring Plt., Maine, graduated in December with a Master of Science In Education.

Hometown News

 Air National Guard Airman Alissa N. Connolly graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
