Volunteer Income Assistance Program Coming to Calais

Charles Fritz, the coordinator of the Volunteer Income Assistance Program, has set the schedule for helping residents with their tax returns for the 2012 Tax Year.  This program is sponsored by the IRS and charitable organizations like the United Way. All volunteers in the program have been trained and certified.

Oak Bay Fire Dept. /Muscular Dystrophy Rooftop Campout

Members of the Oak Bay Fire Department will be sleeping on top of the local Canadian Tire store February 22/23 as a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy. Starting at 12 noon on February 22 staying there til 6 pm on Saturday February 23 the members will be there to help raise money for Muscular Dystrophy. .

BERNICE V. TRACY

Baileyville – Bernice Vesta Tracy, 78, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital.  Bernice was born in Baileyville on June 6, 1934, daughter of the late Jack and Martha McCurdy.  She graduated from Woodland High School and worked various retail jobs in Calais for several years.  On December 16, 1959, she married Amos Tracy Jr.

CHRISTINA M. TAYLOR

Eastport - Christina Mary Taylor, 78, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 4, 2013 at a Bangor hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born August 29, 1934 in Houlton the daughter of the late Levi and Mary (Tomah) Joseph.

Maine Hospital Associations Legislative Breakfast in Augusta

Two of the Washington County state representatives who attended the Maine Hospital Association’s legislative breakfast in Augusta on Feb. 5 met with the CEOs of two Critical Access Hospitals that serve Washington County patients. Maine’s K-12 Junior Duck Stamp Contest

The nineteenth annual statewide competition for the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest is underway.  The Junior Duck Stamp Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about biology and express their knowledge of the beauty, diversity, and interdependence of wildlife, wetlands, and waterfowl conservation through art.
