What an incredibly busy week for Calais!  From concerts to suppers, art shows to career fairs, it is amazing how much you can fit inside a week that involved one and a half snow days.  Despite the stormy weather, Calais students forged ahead and made achievements that reach from here to Bar Harbor.

(Beland) Robichaud in McAdam, New Brunswick on March 25, 1980.  He attended school in Waterbury, CT where he graduated from Kennedy High with a major in Home Economics.

2012 Deer Harvest Up 13% in Maine

Augusta, Maine –The 2012 deer season ended with a total harvest of 21,365 deer, representing an increase of 13% over the 2011 harvest of 18,839. Increases in the harvest were seen in all wildlife management districts.

Baileyville – Estella Elmira Johnson, 96, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital.  Estella was born in Pembroke on May 19, 1916, daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Summerton) Barnes.  She graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1934, and moved to Robbinston to become a babysitter.

Down East United Methodists Plan Holy Week Services

PERRY – This year, five United Methodist Churches in eastern Washington County are joining together for Holy Week services to mark Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.  Blakey Memorial (Eastport), Calais, North Perry, Pembroke and People’s (Baileyville) United Methodist Churches are participating, and the services are open to everyone.

Every five years, one unspayed free roaming female cat and her offspring is capable of producing 20,000 more offspring.  Sadly, it is estimated that 4 out of 5 kittens born outdoors cannot survive and that keeps the population down.

Local Author Helps Restock Libraries Damaged by Hurricane Sandy

Calais, ME, February 20 – Books by former Calais resident Krista Tibbs are on their way to New York City as part of the effort to restock libraries destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Tibbs’ novel, “The Neurology of Angels”, has been shipped after being vetted by Indie Authors for Hurricane Sandy Libraries, a group established in November 2012 by author K. S.
