BAILEYVILLE – Alton Gary Bohanon, 68, passed away unexpectedly at his home April 7, 2013.  He was born May 6, 1944 in Calais, son of the late Asher Chester Bohanon and Beatrice Leighton Bayliss.  Jimmy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from June of 1965 until he was honorable discharged in June of 1967 serving over a year and a half overseas.


Calais – Edward H. Cline, 86, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home in Calais.  Edward was born in Lubec on March 9, 1927, son of the late Charles and Maude (McDowell) Cline.

East Grand Adventure Race is in 5 weeks!

 EAST GRAND ADVENTURE RACE, May 11, 20 mile race including a 1.5+ mile off trail compass run, 9+ mile Mt. biking, 7+ miles of canoeing, climbing wall challenge, and extra challenges in the field (last year’s was the Tomahawk Throw & Gravel Pit Challenge). Divisions: race in pairs in the high school boys, girls, mixed; Adult men, women, mix; Jr./Sr.

Two Washington County Deputies Honored

Two Washington County Deputies were honored for their service to Maine game wardens at the warden’s annual meeting on Wednesday. Deputies Adam Davis and Dennis Perry received the award for Meritorious Service. Kendall’s Fine Jewelers is hosting this month’s “Meet Your Downtown Neighbor” event on Friday, Apr. 12 at 5 p.m. This open house offers people, especially those that work during the daytime, a chance to become acquainted with the business and the people who operate it. Kendall’s is located at 293 Main St.             

Audio Books

I have to tell you I love being read to.  Since no one in their right mind would follow me around all day to read me a good book, I have come to rely on audio books. This love started with my parents reading to me when I was young.  At the Lincoln Public Library back in the seventies, I could put on huge headphones and listen to Peter Rabbit all day long.

Washington County Delegation Praises Downeast Correctional Facility for Providing New Fire Truck for the Town of Whiting

 AUGUSTA -- “We would like to thank you, the administration and the inmates at Downeast Correctional Facility for your efforts in manufacturing a new pumper (sic) truck for the Town of Whiting as part of the welding program at Bucks Harbor. The inmates should be extremely proud of their accomplishment.”

A Story and a Recipe

One of my friends told me she had tried my Cabbage and Kielbasa recipe and did not like it very much.  I asked her if she generally liked cabbage and she said, “No.”  I guess if readers do not like the ingredients to begin with, maybe putting them in a recipe will not change that.  I still stand by that recipe.
