Free Top Gun Prep Course

CARIBOU — Northern Maine Development Commission (NMDC) is offering just starting out entrepreneurs in Aroostook and Washington counties free tuition in the Top Gun Prep course from the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development, but the deadline for submitting an application is rapidly approaching.

Baileyville Police Report

This week the Town of Baileyville welcomed new police chief Robert Fitzsimmons. Last week the police department responded to complaints of disorderly conduct, suspicious activity, agency assist and several arrests.

An April 28, on-duty police officer conducted a well-being check on Apple Tree Lane.

Nathan B. Burse of Eastport, ME. Possessing suspended driver license. Jury trial. Operate while license suspended or revoked, prior. Jury trial.

Jeremy F. Carr of Charlotte, ME. Allow minor to possess or consume liquor. Fine $500.

Welcome, readers, to another exciting edition of The Dragon’s Den! Quite a lot happened this week, even with a very welcome half-day on Wednesday, so lets fill out a resume and get down to business!

I have been watching some birds building a nest under the eves of the house. There are three empty bird boxes they are not paying any attention to this year except to peer into once in a while. They are clean so I don’t know what the problem is. There is also an empty nest in the lilac bush outside the window that no one is claiming this year.

The last few days of last week were wet and foggy but not much rain fell. There is still a fire danger.
Thanks to John and Daniel Cashore for entertaining at the Mother’s Day Tea at the Robbinston Historical Society last Saturday. Everyone enjoyed the music.

June 12th Book Group

Calais Bookshop has selected the Man Booker Award winning novel, “Bring Up the Bodies” by  Hilary Mantel, for its next reading group on Wednesday, June 12. This novel is the sequel to “Wolf Hall” which also won the Man Booker Award.

Calais – Robert Linson Howbrigg, 91, passed away Sunday, May 05, 2013 in Calais.  Robert was born in Belleville, NJ, on October 14, 1921, son of the late Edwin and Edith (Devoe) Howbrigg.  He lived all but the first year of his life in Meriden, CT, moving to Calais (Red Beach) in 2001.


BAILEYVILLE – Salvatore John Pisacane, 80, passed away suddenly at his home, May 6, 2013.  Salvatore was born to John and Philomena (Bracca) Pisacane on August 23, 1932 in Shelton, CT where he also grew up.  He served his country and was honorable discharged from the U.S.


WAITE  - Rhana Kathleen Larkin passed away on April 28, 2013.  Rhana was born in Princeton, ME on August 28, 1948 to Ellsworth and Gwen (Dow) Crosby.  Rhana gained many friends throughout the community over the years as she worked as a clerk in the local stores.   She had a smile and kind words for everyone she waited on.
