Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour Visits Local Food Pantries

Down East CU’s Becky Perkins (r) welcomes Brenda Davis and the Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour to Calais.   Davis, one of the state’s leading end hunger advocates, is walking throughout the state from October 26-December 4 to raise awareness about the issue of hunger.  The stop in Calais was one of two communities the Tour visited in Washington County.

Baileyville Police Report

Baileyville Police Department handled several complaints over the past two weeks (10-16-13 through 10-25-13) including investigations of drug complaints, accident, OAS, agency assists, criminal threatening, and warrants.

On October 16, police conducted an investigation on a drug activity complaint on Hillside Street.

GRANT F. CILLEY

Princeton – Grant Franklin Cilley, 44, born on October 17th, 1969, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 3, 2013 in a tragic accident.  Grant was known to all as a friend, a son, a brother, a loving husband, father, and as “Grampy”.  Through Grant’s many selfless acts he touched and saved many lives.

RICHARD O. DAWE 1919-2013

AUBURN - Richard O. Dawe, 93, of Auburn, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 6.

He was born November 17, 1919 in Calais, the son of Leo and Edith (Fenderson) Dawe. He graduated from Calais Academy in 1938 and Beal College in Bangor in 1940.

Robinson Ballet to Perform “The Nutcracker” at UMM

The Robinson Ballet Company of Bangor will bring Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker, to Downeast Maine with a pair of performances on Saturday, November 23, at the University of Maine at Machias. Performances will be offered at 3 and 7 p.m. in UMM’s Performing Arts Center.

Would tell all parents of our great school children at Calais Elementary School the reason have to leave for health reasons. Being at crossing for 16 years, 2 months every day 17° below or 98°, sun, rain or shine. I’m all you at this position never met one boy or girl that was rude. The Calais Class of 2016 will hold a craft/bake sale at the Calais Elementary School on November 23 from 9 am to 2 pm. 

Being my grandson Liam’s last soccer game of the season in Portsmouth, N.H. Liam scored a goal under five minutes to go in the half.
