University of Maine at Farmington Announces Dean’s List

Fall 2013 Semester

The University of Maine at Farmington announces its Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester. UMF maintains a Dean’s List each semester for those students completing a minimum of 12 credits in courses producing quality points.

Calais Celtic Concerts to Open Their Third Season with Irish Musicians; “Open the Door for Three”

In coordination with New England Celtic Arts, The Calais Celtic Concert Series will present Irish Trio “Open the Door for Three” at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Calais Maine, on Friday Feb. 21. Curtain time will be at 7:00 PM U.S., 8:00 PM Canadian. Doors will open at 6:00 PM.

MARY E. CHRISTIE

 Calais – Mary Elizabeth Christie, 83, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014.  Mary was born in Calais on April 5, 1930, daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Ethel Mae (Samson) Christie.  She attended school in Calais and worked as a stitcher for Wareknitters.  In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by a brother Lloyd Christie.

BARRY R. DWELLEY

Baileyville – Barry Richard Dwelley, 73, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Brooksville Regional Hospital in Florida.  Barry was born in Princeton on February 11, 1940, son of the late Duane and Jessie (Penny) Dwelley.  He graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1958, and on November 10, 1962, he married Joyce Robinson.

ROBERT E. MCININCH

 Calais – Robert E. McIninch, 75, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home with his loving wife by his side.  Robert was born in St. Stephen, N.B. on June 26, 1938, son of the late Frank and Pauline (Northup) McIninch.

East Machias Selectmen Enter Fight to Save County Jails, Downeast Correctional Facility

Washington County municipalities opposed to a proposed closure of the Downeast Correctional Facility as well as a state takeover of the county jail are being encouraged to sign on to a pair of resolutions being circulated by East Machias selectmen Kenneth “Bucket” Davis, Dale Richardson, and Will Tuell. 

Lady Blue Devils Celebrate Eastern Maine Win, Focus on “Unfinished Business”

FEBRUARY 26: Seniority breakfast club will meet at the Wickachee at 7:00 a.m. All seniority members invited.

Calais Police Report

Over the course of the past week Calais officers have responded to 43 incidents, 3 motor vehicle accidents and issued 2 traffic citations. Several times officers were asked to respond to remove persons from a specific location.

Troop J Report

This week Troop J responded to 129 calls for service. The following are noteworthy complaints:

Trooper Jeffrey Taylor arrested Michelle Grant, 25, of Jonesport on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear.

Trooper Greg Roy arrested Kenneth Grant, 49, of Deer Isle on three active arrest warrants.
