“Winter Sports and Fun” at the Pottle Tree Farm, Perry

Winter fun activities for the whole family will be happening at the Pottle Tree  Farm in Perry on Saturday, February 15th!  The day will begin at 10 A.M with a cross-country ski race at 10:30 A.M.  (weather permitting)  as well as skiing on miles of open trails.

Statewide Student Art Contest Draws Near

Paige Gillespie won second place in the Maine finals of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest (2013) with her painting titled “Sunset at Whiting Maine”.   Paige is the only student in the known history of our school to have confidently entered this kind of a distinguished art contest.

New Smart Board at Princeton Elementary

Thanks to the Cole Transportation Foundation, students at Princeton Elementary School are enjoying a new Smart Board in the second grade classroom. Principal, Charity Williams, quickly acted upon an offer by the Foundation to have students take a tour of the Cole Land Transportation Museum in exchange for this technological device.

Edmunds Parent Teacher Booster Club

The Edmunds Parent Teacher Booster Club will be holding their Spring Fling on Saturday, March 1, 2014. The Spring Fling will include a Chinese raffle, craft room, cake walk, and activities for the kids, as well as the bounce house. The Chinese raffle has become a huge attraction, attracting people young and old from surrounding areas.

Community cat, Lady Jane, is visiting with the indoor cats, including her offspring, Garfield and Thor from two different litters (on the right) at Mary Weston’s home in Calais.  With Mary’s help, Lady Jane was spayed and given preventative care as part of the PAWS Brave Hearts City Kitties program, which frees her from the cycle of reproduction that she had faced before.

IRENE M. GLIDDEN

Charlotte – Irene Mae Glidden, 102, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 in Machias.  Irene was born in Lubec on August 27, 1911, daughter to John and Estella (Stanley) Goodeill.  She attended school in Woodland and soon after married Norman Shirley with whom she had three children.  She later married Eben Glidden in 1950.

MARY J. GILLESPIE

 Calais – Mary J. Gillespie, 77, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with her loving family by her side.  Mary was born in Lewiston on March 21, 1936, daughter of the late Romeo and Gertrude (Doyle) St. Pierre.  She graduated from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1954, and married Lawrence “Larry” Gillespie on April 11, 1955.
