NEW PROGRAMS: For your New Year’s Resolution ! Getting more exercise and losing Weight !

ZUMBA: professional instructor, Rosa Subialdea will hold classes on Mon. Evenings from 6 - 7 pm at the Woodland Elem. School, on Mon. Feb. 3 Classes will be open to anyone ages 13 and up.  

New Smart Board at Princeton Elementary

Thanks to the Cole Transportation Foundation, students at Princeton Elementary School are enjoying a new Smart Board in the second grade classroom. Principal, Charity Williams, quickly acted upon an offer by the Foundation to have students take a tour of the Cole Land Transportation Museum in exchange for this technological device.

Midterm week is finished at Calais High School, which means we are now in the beginning of the second semester.  With only five months of school left, events will be coming frequently and fervently.

The Anah Shrine Circus tickets are now available.

The circus this year will be held at the new Cross Insurance Building in Bangor, Maine on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Senate Passes King Measure to Support Mobile Veterinarians in Maine

Community cat, Lady Jane, is visiting with the indoor cats, including her offspring, Garfield and Thor from two different litters (on the right) at Mary Weston’s home in Calais.  With Mary’s help, Lady Jane was spayed and given preventative care as part of the PAWS Brave Hearts City Kitties program, which frees her from the cycle of reproduction that she had faced before.

IRENE M. GLIDDEN

Charlotte – Irene Mae Glidden, 102, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 in Machias.  Irene was born in Lubec on August 27, 1911, daughter to John and Estella (Stanley) Goodeill.  She attended school in Woodland and soon after married Norman Shirley with whom she had three children.  She later married Eben Glidden in 1950.

MARY J. GILLESPIE

 Calais – Mary J. Gillespie, 77, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with her loving family by her side.  Mary was born in Lewiston on March 21, 1936, daughter of the late Romeo and Gertrude (Doyle) St. Pierre.  She graduated from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1954, and married Lawrence “Larry” Gillespie on April 11, 1955.
