Team Earns Birth in District Championship

The Calais Junior Little League baseball team under Coaches David Mitchell, Kenny Murphy, and Mike Hayward completed their regular season play hosting and defeating Machias this past Tuesday, and then had to jump into the playoffs series with a start against Coastal on Thursday.

The weather has been very enjoyable for the past week.  It is definitely strawberry weather and it will be over shortly.  Today the humidity is a bit high and the experts are predicting heavy rain showers for Tuesday and Wednesday.  At least we will not have to shovel it.

Eastport 4th of July Parade!

U.S. Navy Ship, U.S.S Anzio had their crew and officers march in the Eastport Celebration. Each year the city has a Navy ship during the holiday. The cooperations of our senators, representatives and Navy are much appreciated. It was a heart-warming sight to see our sailors in uniform. (Photo by Manuel Santiago).

SummerKeys Concert

Kent Hewitt, jazz pianist/composer and SummerKeys faculty member returns to the Lubec stage for the 11th season on July 16th for a solo concert of “Jazz Piano Stylings”.  A consummate soloist and accompanist, he's been a mainstay of jazz music in Connecticut and musical director for the state's top nightclubs.

President Cory Grimond of Millennium Marine USA invites you to an open house reception at the former Guilford mill in Quoddy Village on Saturday, July 26, 1 - 4 pm. There will be a tour, food and live entertainment.

Pembroke Arena

Pembroke Arena will host the National Barrel Racing State Show for the first time on July 12th and 13th. Some of the fastest horse and rider teams from Maine will be there to compete for money and prizes. Maine Riders have long been involved in NBHA, many qualifying for the World Show in Perry, Georgia every year.

SUMMER DAY CAMP:   Held Mon. / Fri. at 9 am  - 3:30 pm at the Woodland Elem. School. Children, who have completed kindergarten through 7th grade are eligible to participate. There is a fee. MARIE A. FLEWELLING

Calais – Marie Arlene Flewelling, 87, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home.  Marie was born in Lubec on September 26, 1926, daughter of the late Stanley and Bertha (Bridges) Peakall.  She grew up in Calais and graduated from Calais Academy.

SUSAN JANE JAMES

Big Lake Township - Susan Jane James, 66, died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at home with her family by her side after a long illness. She was born November 25, 1947 at Plantation 21, the daughter of Phyllis (Gillman) Davis and the late Carroll Corbett.

GEORGE STEVENS JR.

Indian Township – George Stevens Jr, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, July 07, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.  George was born in Lewiston on January 5, 1922, son of George and Elizabeth Stevens.  Upon the untimely death of his mother, George was raised by his aunt Seraphine Lola Stevens in Pleasant Point.
