GRAND LAKE STREAM 4TH OF JULY! Activities from 8:00 a.m. to dusk for fireworks!

LUBEC FIREWORKS: At the Lubec boat landing at 9:15 a.m. Rain date is July 6.

WCCC Golf Tournament

There is still room for teams to sign up for the 13th annual Washington County Community College Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 12, at the St. Croix Country Club.

There will be two shotgun starts at 7:30a.m. and 1 p.m.  

Again this year, the tournament will help raise scholarship money for WCCC students.

This week, Hurricane Arthur is the big story around here. But, first of all -- Kudos!! to Meddybemps Post Office employees for mail delivery to our boxes during the July 5th storm! 

Calais Police Department

On June 24th, 2014 Debra Kendall, 51, of Calais was arrested for Violation of a Protection order.

On June 27th, 2014 Wade Papke, 37, of Calais  was arrested for violation of probation.

On June 29th, 2014 Rachelle Brooks, 50, of Calais was arrested for operating under the influence.

CRH Lab Gets High Rating During Inspection

CALAIS—Once again Calais Regional Hospital’s clinical laboratory passed an inspection by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  “They are the one group that every single lab in the United States must get a certificate of some type to operate from,” said Peter Martin, CRH Laboratory Director.

The weather has been wonderful and further words would do it injustice.  We all must learn to enjoy each day with the weather that comes.

Friends and relatives held a baby shower for Allie (and Brent) Bohanon last Saturday at the church.  Baby Bohanon received many items that she will need when she arrives.

July 4th Traffic Enforcement

State Police say they plan several traffic enforcement efforts that started today and will continue through the July 4th holiday weekend.  The Chief of the State Police, Colonel Robert Williams, said troopers will be looking for aggressive, drunk and distracted drivers, speeders, those texting, and those not wearing their seat belts.

What a great treat this week has been watching the excitement of Celebrating Grand Lake Stream America as individuals, families and businesses get ready to build floats and other exhibits for the parade on July 4th.

Dinner in Lubec

A fancy progressive dinner in Lubec, a fundraiser for the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium project, is set for Saturday, July 12, at three places around town.

Diners will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks at Rachel Rubeor’s home, followed by paella at Davis Pike’s home, followed by dessert by the water at Stockford Park.

I attended the memorial service for Mike Reynolds, at St. Anne’s Church Saturday. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard and members of the Maine Army National Guard participated in the service.
