ROSS E. COOKSON

 Calais – Ross Edward Cookson, 82, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at his home in Wartrace, TN, with his son and daughter by his side.  Ross was born in St. Stephen, NB, on October 13, 1932, son of the late William and Edna (Smith) Cookson.

CHARLES E. CURTIS

Princeton – Charles Edward Curtis, 71, died November 8, 2014 in Bangor with his family at his side after a courageous 2 year battle with ALS.  Chuck was born on May 9, 1943 to Charles L. and Ethel (Koski) Curtis in Michigan where he spent a great part of his life.

NORRIS “BUD” KNEELAND

Baileyville – Norris H. Kneeland, 83, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at a Bangor hospital.  Bud was born in Baileyville on August 6, 1931, son of the late Norris P. and Elizabeth (Shirley) Kneeland.  After graduating from Woodland High School he worked in the woods until entering the U.S.

What's Up Downtown?

We’ve been having a lot of fun in downtown Calais lately, just in case you haven’t noticed. Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition’s (CDRC) October “Create A Scarecrow” contest took off like gangbusters.  About 25 scary and not so scary creations decorated our lamp posts.

November 22 is the new moon. 

November 16th there is a potluck and social dinner at 6:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Members and guests are invited. The installation of officers will take place.

The information came in on Saturday that Lloyd and Gloria Corbett will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, November 27th. They and their family will have lots of Thanksgiving blessings to share.  Congratulations and best wishes are being sent to both of you.

Calais Free Library's Halloween Parade

The Calais Free Library held its annual Halloween Parade, a community tradition for over 35 years.  This years event brought approximately 200 children together for a costumed walk through town ending at the library where each received candy.  The parade is always led by the Calais Police Department and the Calais High School Band.  (Photos by Jayna Smith).

My husband’s hip replacement surgery was a success and he is convalescing at home.

The Sunday evening service at the Sewell Memorial Congregational Church has been changed from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is because of shorter days and will end in the spring.

It is a gorgeous Monday in Meddybemps as I write this.  We had a heavy frost this morning, followed by bright sunshine, baby blue skies and various cloud formations.  Last night, the sky was so clear, I could identify many of the star formations.
