Tiny snowdrop flowers may bloom this month, even through the snow. Don’t bring them into the house though, it is considered bad luck!

Shrove Tuesday was enjoyed at St. Anne’s Parish Hall with pancakes and sausage. A small attendance but a joyful group. Cookies, tea, coffee and cold drinks were also available.

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2015 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Calais Elementary School.

High School Boys Basketball

The Jonesport-Beals Royals traveled to Woodland Friday and played behind most of the first half, trailing midway 33-24, but momentum changed in the third as the guests earned a 41-40 edge and then played in a thriller to a 61-57 victory.

In Baileyville the Lady Dragons hosted the Royalettes from J-B taking a slight lead early and playing to a 57-46 victory. Jennie Cox paced the winners with a solid 17-points. Lauren Cook added 11 and Daynah Brown 7 in the decision.
