Santa and His Elves!

Santa and the Lioness elves wish to thank everyone who contributed to making the Calais Christmas parade and its festivities afterwards a wonderful success. More than 30 businesses joined in the parade and over 100 children came to see Santa and Mrs. Claus in the park. (Photo by Kaileigh Deacon). See more parade photos on page 8, 21 and 28.

Christmas Celebrations Enthusiastically Embraced

What does Christmas mean to you? Whether it’s the celebration of the birth of Jesus, time for excessive shopping and spending, days and nights of feasting, family togetherness, or gifts, Santa Claus, and a lavish tree – or some combination of all of those things – it seems that this year’s holiday season is filled with rampant enthusiasm from all directions.

Devil's Head Raffle Winners Announced

The raffle drawing to support Devil's Head has ended and three winners have been drawn. The first ticket drawn was for Sherry and Ron Johnson, who selected the unique painting of Devil's Head as their prize. The second ticket was for Gary Johnson, who opted for the $200 cash prize. The third ticket belonged to Ken Thomas, who will receive a cord of wood.

The Women to Women held their Annual Christmas Party on Monday December 4th. It was a wonderful gathering with delicious food, entertainment provided by the Strumming’ Wildcats and a competitive Yankee Swap!  Lots of fun and laughs!

ECW will meet at Patsy Beckett’s home on Wednesday, December 13th for a Christmas celebration and supper.


Robbinston and Falmouth – John E. McDonald, 85, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 after a long battle with diabetes, heart trouble and cancer.  He was born in Calais on December 1, 1931, to Edmund H.


Janis Lee Smith (Jones) of Baileyville, also know as Hannah to anyone close to her, passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2017 at 58 years of age. She was born on December 29, 1958 in Princeton, Maine to Gerald Jones and Shirley Dwelley (Bayliss).


White House TN and Baileyville (Woodland) Maine - Maurice Andrew Polk (60) went to be with his Lord unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 while out hunting in Waverly, TN. He was born April 17, 1957 in St. Stephen, NB Canada to Maurice E. and Marilyn A. (Corbett) Polk. 

Moonlight Madness!

Moonlight Madness took Calais by storm Friday Night. Shops and stores all over Calais offered shoppers deals so they could find the perfect present for everyone on their Christmas Shopping List. Cindy Wartman at the Olde Woodshed on Barker Street in Calais stayed open until midnight offering not only a deal but hot cocoa and cookies to all her shoppers. 

Pembroke Craft Fair

Saturday Morning the Pembroke Elementary School was a flurry of activity as vendors and shoppers filed in for the annual craft fair. There was everything from homemade crafts, homemade canned goods, and vendors for companies like Thirty-One and LuLaRoe.
