Calais - Brian Edward Ritchie, 40, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2018 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Brian was born in Calais on August 20, 1977, son of James “Bimmy” and Jelaine “Fred” (Stanhope) Ritchie.

Calais – Joan Daphne Kelly, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Marshall Healthcare in Machias with her children by her side.  Joan was born in Eastport on September 27, 1929, daughter of Thomas and Marguerite (Eye) Cleland.

Calais Lady Blue Devils

 The undefeated Calais Lady Blue Devils exploded to a 73-8 win over the Lady Pandas from Lee Academy. In the win 9 players made the scoring column while being paced by Olivia Huckins with 16 points, Lauren Cook at 14, and 13 each from Sophie McVicar and Prue Maxwell.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to Speak in Eastport

The Eastport Arts Center (EAC) is excited to announce the appearance of Bill de Blasio,  the mayor of New York City, on Saturday, January 13 at 3 pm. Mayor de Blasio will give an informal talk on “The State of Democracy in America” and take questions afterwards. EAC is particularly proud to present a nationally recognized politician in a rare visit to rural Maine.

Woman Arrested for Role in Attempted Murder

According to the Calais Police Department, Brittany Wescott has been arrested on charges of aggravated attempted murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs following the incident that took place in Calais on December 27th. Wescott turned herself in to Washington County Jail at approximately 1:30 p.m. on January 3rd.

Letter to the Editor - Federal Government is going against the will of the voters

Once again, the Federal Government is going against the will of the voters. Jeff Sessions is rescinding an Obama-era policy and going against the states that have legalized marijuana. I am not on a rant about marijuana. I am tired of our elected officials running their own agenda. This also goes for state officials.
