While the entire country was abuzz last week, including hundreds of people right here in Washington County hoping for their piece of the more than $500 million Powerball jackpot, one Milltown resident was celebrating a smaller win.

It wasn’t the big jackpot, but Denise Robichaud recently won $1 million on a lucky scratch-off ticket.

Most people would think winning any kind of lottery is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing — but not Robichaud. This is the local hairdresser’s second lottery scratch-off win, taking home $250,000 three years ago, she said.

“One thing I can honestly say is I’m quite lucky,” Robichaud said.

Her luck doesn’t stop there: she has also won 9 diamonds, a couple grab-bags during the international festival and several $500 scratch-off tickets recently.

After paying off her debt after her last big win, Robichaud said she is going to enjoy her new money — which amounted to about $700,000 after taxes. “I want to have some fun,” she said.

Last week she brought home a brand new Cadillac SRX4. “I always thought this was the car to have, and now I do,” she said.

Asked if she would ever try her luck at one of the Powerball’s big jackpots, Robichaud said she’s going to stick with what works.

“I’ve never had much luck with the lottery,” she said. “I like the scratch-offs.”
