High School Basketball - Teams Have Pre-season Games

A very talented Calais Lady Blue Devil squad opened with a pre-season at home against Ellsworth and defeated the “B” squad 60-53 over the 32-minutes of action. Paige Gillespie powered the Devils with 23-points, Madison McVicar netted 11, Sierra Young 10, and 6-each from Black and Johnson.

At the Lee pre-season tourney the Devils defeated Hodgdon 40-32 as Madison McVicar and Paige Gillespie each netted 11 and Olivia Smith added 6 in the 8-point win.

In their second game on the day they defeated the host Lee squad 48-37. Paige passed the Lady Devils with 10, Olivia Smith added 9, and Meaghan Cavanaugh netted 6. The Lady Devils play in the St Stephen tourney this weekend and open at home against Shead on Monday.

At Lee the talented Blue Devils nipped Hodgdon 51-50 in pre-season action. In the win Devan Hall netted 25-points, Tyler Niles hit 11, and Cordell Hold added 7.

In an earlier 1-point pre-season thriller Calais defeated Ellsworth 70-69 this past Tuesday. The win at home was powered by Devan Hall hitting 24, Kyle Johnson 11, Tyler Niles 10, Cordell Hold 10, and Horace Diffen 9.

Woodland High School girls hosted Sumner last week. The 2012-13 Dragons under Coach Arnold Clark are very young with 2-seniors, a junior, 7-sophomores, and 2-freshman. Although a young squad they are quite talented and will improve as the season progresses. Merchant and Davis helped propel the guests to a 42-25 win with 12/11 points respectively. Jaycie MacArthur led the Lady Dragons with 10-points.

In Lee PCHS captured a 41-18 win over the Woodland team. Jaycie MacArthur hit 7-points and Julia Sprague 4, while counterparts had Bell with 13 and Speed & Morrill with 6-each.

Lincoln defeated the Lady Dragons 33-17. Mikayla Hamilton and Jaycie MacArthur earned 6-points each for Woodland, while Kraft earned 6 in the win.

Woodland scrimmaged Sumner on Tuesday and a big 31-point second frame put the game away for the guests in a 90-59 finish. Martin 22-points, Rayner 17, and Chipman 16 led the attack in the win. Damon Lincoln paced Woodland scoring 23, CJ Brown hit 7 and Scott Boies added 6.

At Lee Hodgdon took a 54-29 win over the Dragons while led by Josh Hudson at 13, Chris Hudson 12, and Sherman in with 11. The Dragons attack was led by Lincoln 8, Brown 7, and freshman Ryan McIver 6.

In the final pre-season Katahdin defeated the Dragons 43-35, powered by Colman at 18 and Wyatt with 10. The Dragons were paced by senior Jake Hoops with 10-points, Lincoln had 7 and Tyler Cochran 6 in the loss.
