High School Basketball Lady Blue Devils Earn #1 Slot In East

CHS GIRLS - 

The Calais Lady Blue Devils continues to play impressive ball with tenacious defense and talented depth throughout the balanced lineup.  Three seniors, 6-juniors, and 3-sophomores gives Coach Redding consistency throughout their games as they have now earned the #1 slot in Eastern Maine girls Class “C” basketball with a perfect 14-0 mark. 

Last week the Lady Devils traveled to Sumner where they jumped to a 23-11 edge after 8-minutes of action never looking back to the 67-40 final buzzer. Davis and Merchant paced the hosts scoring 13/11 respectively, while Calais was powered in his game by Maddy McVicar at 22, Paige Gillespie 13, Taylorae Carter 7 and 6’s by Olivia Smith and Sarah Smith.

In an even more lopsided contest, the visiting Owls from Madawaska fell behind 22-12 after 1-frame but lost over the 32-minutes of action 83-33. Levesque and Cote earned 9-each in the loss. The hosts had Olivia Smith scoring 19-points (3-3’s), Maddy McVicar 17, Meaghan Cavanaugh 12, Paige Gillespie 8, and 6’s from Kaylee Johnson and Kate Cundiff.

WHS BOYS – 

The Woodland boys continue to battle for a spot in the upcoming prelims, presently 7-7 and in 14TH place in Class “D” East action. In a split the past four games, the Dragons traveled to Eastport where they earned an early edge and were able to fight to a 62-54 decision behind Damon Lincoln at 19, Toby Tomah 14, Jake Hoops 8, Hunter Snowman 7, and CJ Brown 6. Mark Clossey led all scorers on Eastport scoring a big 31-points and Nick Bradbury added 8 in the loss.

Garet Beal set a new record at Jonesport-Beals lighting up the board with 57-points – there was no one in Eastern Maine that would be shutting him down that night – a spectacular effort. Vinal Crowley, Cole Beal, and Kasden Beal netted 9-each in the 100-47 win. The Dragons had 10 from Scott Boies, 7 from Toby Tomah and 6’s by CJ Brown and Ryan McIver.

At Lee Academy on Saturday good balance gave the Pandas a convincing 65-35 win over the Dragons. The hosts had Thurlow 12, Kong 13, Fall 8, and Wei 8. Tyler Cochran and CJ Brown led the Dragons in the loss with 11-each and Toby Tomah added 10.

Monday night the Dragons hosted Narraguagus and the two squads played even through the first half with a 25-23 edge for the hosts. In the third the Dragons earned the separation needed for the win outscoring the Knights 21-12 paced by 3-3’s from Damon Lincoln letting the Dragons play to a 63-57 victory. Damon led all scorers hitting a strong 24-points that included 5-3’s. CJ Brown played big adding 16, Toby Tomah had 8, and Tyler Cochran netted 6. In the loss Thompson scored 16, Kennedy 12, and Tenney 11.

WHS GIRLS - 

A big win over the Lady bulldogs from Machias are keeping the Lady Dragons in the hunt for a prelim as they sit in 15TH with a 1-13 record. With three games left with Shead, Machias, and Calais another win might be needed to hold on to the last prelim spot. Last week the team got behind the Shead Tigerettes early, opening with first period with a 19-4 deficit and playing to a 55-31 loss. Sierra Seeley led all scorers with 17, Jenna DeMolet hit 13 and Kristina Jamieson added 8 in the win. For the Dragons Jaycee MacArthur hit 15 and Nicole Hanson added 8.

The Harrington Lady Knights rolled at the Dragon Dome to a 78-30 victory as Kelli Kennedy poured in 31-points, Anna Ramsey added 12, Lauren Ramsey 11, and Karmen Kennedy 8 in the win. Jaycie MacArthur scored 12, Whitney Bassett 6, and Nicole Hanson 5 for the Lady Dragons.

Mallory Maxwell paced the Lee Pandas with 21-points to a 48-25 win over Woodland. Abby and Lindsey Glidden added 9/12 respectively. For the guests Jaycie MacArthur netted 8 and Whitney Bassett 6 in the loss. REMEMBER FANS, WEAR SOMETHING PINK TO THE CALAIS/WOODLAND GIRLS GAME NEXT WEEK!!!!
