Self-Publishing Seminar for Aspiring Authors

MACHIAS – Stephen L Blythe, DO, author, Osteopathic family physician and nutritionist practicing at DECH Medical Associates in Machias, will present a free two-hour seminar on Publishing your own Book on February 2nd from 1pm to 3pm in Science 102, UMM.

Downeasters are known for their creativity and do-it-yourself attitude. If your creative inspiration is best expressed in book form, this is the seminar for you. “Is the great American novel burning inside you,” asks Dr. Blythe. “Do you have a fascinating life history or a story to share? Have you copied recipes or genealogical records to share?” Using his own experience publishing two books, Dr. Blythe will provide a how-to instructional presentation on self-publishing that is sure to inspire any would-be author, editor or compiler.

This seminar is part of the Sunrise Senior College (SSC) Winter Warm-Ups, a series of two-hour programs, free of charge that is open to the public. You don’t have to register in advance, be a member of SSC, or even be a senior to participate in any of the Winter Warm-Up programs.

Following each Winter Warm-up presentation, participants are invited to stay for a book review discussion organized by SSC. Books chosen for discussion are from two genre lists created by Etta Abrahams’ short story class held in the fall 2012 semester. Visit the SSC website at for information on these select books and where to borrow copies

For information on possible weather cancellations, call the SSC message center at 255-1384.  Cancellations will be posted by noon on the date of the event.
