LORRAINE THERESA (CASSIDY) MURPHY

Eastport and The Villages, FL - Lorraine Theresa Murphy, 87, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 in The Villages, FL following a short illness. By her side were her granddaughters, Dori and Cindy and her great granddaughter Lindsey. 

Lorraine was born in Eastport, ME on July 23, 1925, the daughter of the late James A. and Doris (Clough) Cassidy. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1943. In November 1944, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Murphy. Lorraine loved having her family gathered around her. She was happiest when her home was filled with the sounds of laughing children and the chatter of family members enjoying the company of each other and spending time with her. Family meals were always a special time at Lorraine’s. She loved to provide a bountiful feast for her loved ones. In her later years Lorraine enjoyed spending the winter months with her son and his wife in Florida but as spring approached she would grow restless for her beloved Eastport and her home on Lincoln Street.

Surviving are her children Kenneth and his wife Elaine of Eastport and children Kenny, Jo Ellen, Matt, Alayna, and Ashley; Dawn Barnes and husband Bill of Eastport and children Dori, Michelle, Bill and Michael; Charles and his wife Sandra of The Villages, FL and children Tony, Michael, Stacy and Cindy, Robert and his wife Diana of Albuquerque, NM and children Margaret, Andrew, Robert and Melissa, granddaughter Tomi Ellsmore and son-in-law Joe Schofield; 36 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two special nephews Ronnie Karatsanos of Guilford, NH and Jim Lingley of Eastport. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and a daughter TariLynn, a brother James and two sisters Eleanor and Jeannette. 

A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162. www.cornerstonehospice.org or to a charity of your choice.
