Grand Lake Stream

Many thanks to all the folks that supported another great snowmobile season at the West Grand Snowmobile Club clubhouse.  The food was 5 stars, the companionship outstanding and now that the season has closed we can look forward to another great season in 2014! Thanks to all!

Maine certainly has wonderful opportunities to experience the environment.  This past weekend was the annual Maple Sunday which has become a special event throughout the state.  I visited a “sugar house” on Sunday with the intent of seeing folks, having pancakes covered with Maine made syrup and to give hay wagon rides for folks of all ages.  The crowds were so big that moving a hay wagon was impossible.  The weather was outstanding and it felt like people were suffering from “cabin fever” and wanted OUT! The organizers of Maple Sunday certainly can be proud of the turnout for this year’s event!

The Grand Lake Stream Women to Women group is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner on March 30 at 5:00 o’clock to celebrate Kenny Sprague’s progressive recovery. Proceeds will go to help Kenny and Karen’s ongoing expenses.  We will be raffling a beautiful handmade quilt donated by Beth Pullen. There will be a Chinese Auction.  Folks wishing to buy raffle tickets or donate to the auction should contact Mary Arcaro 796-2796, Judy Miller 796-2050 or Sue Whitely 796-0888.

Downeast Lakes Land Trust would like to remind everyone to avoid damaging forest roads during mud season.  Avoid travel any time that roads are soft enough for the ruts to occur.  The Land Trust and our neighboring private land owners appreciate your effort to protect the roads that provide public recreation opportunities and support our forest economy.

The GLS ATV Club is selling new cotton bandanas with a depiction of the GLS ATV Club trails shown on it. The Club also has local trail maps available at the Pine Tree Store. A draft plan for activities will be reviewed for the 2013 season at the April meeting.  Your thoughts and ideas are very welcome.  Contact Sue or Linda!

Although these classes have started you may join in at any time. Samantha Williams, personal trainer, motivation coach and workplace wellness facilitator will conduct a 4 week exercise program starting March 19, 2013.  The classes will be held at the school house from 3 to 4 on Tuesday afternoons.  She will discuss movement, balance, and modifications for injuries.  She will also discuss proper usage of exercise equipment.  This workshop is being sponsored by the Women to Women Group and is open to everyone. Hope to see you there!
