Downeast Wrestling Club has been busy the past two weekends traveling throughout central Maine to finish its regular season and get ready for the New England Regional tournament.

In Dover Foxcroft on March 16, the team had a strong showing placing 3rd with 83 points out of a possible 100. The team lost only by 3 points to Dover and 6 points to Dexter.

Individual Placements (Dover)

The Penobscot Valley tournament was no exception to this great season. Our team of 18 fought tooth and nail. The second place team finish was well worth the hard work. We brought home a team trophy, losing only to Dexter by 4 points.

I would like to thank all of the parents, friends and family that came to cheer and support our wrestlers. We have traveled a lot and it is a very big commitment that everyone has gladly taken on. I would also like to thank everyone that have made donations and organized raffles. A huge thank you goes to Carla Gillespie, Evan’s gram, who donated her 50/50 winnings to the team at the PVHS tournament. Thanks to them, our wrestlers will get new warm ups for their final meet, the New England Regional Tournament at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland on March 30. Family and community support has been tremendous and we are very grateful.

DWC coaching staff is core to the team’s success. I would like to thank my father, Skip James, brother Aaron James, Mike Lurson, Zack Grey-Kelly and Scott Carpenter. Also, many thanks to Nicholas Hallowell who has been at every practice and every meet to help coach this great team.
