Dodie went home to eternal glory on April 17, 2013 at age 88. She was born in Wea Township, Kansas on April 7, 1925 to Charles Edgar Becker and Margie Elizabeth (Smith) Becker. During her lifetime, after serving in the WACs during WWII, she met her husband, Frederick Orenstein who was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Later she moved to New York City and had a son, Anthony Ira Orenstein in 1958. Her work has included working for the New York City Department of Health and being a homemaker. In addition to that, Dodie was an accomplished artist in many fields. These fields include stone carving, wood carving, pottery, painting and especially quilting, which was a true labor of love. All of her quilts were hand sewn from scratches and she lovingly made several dozen of them.

At Dodie’s request, there will be no funeral but a mass will be held at St. James Church in Baileyville at 4 pm on May 11th.
