The Dragon’s Den

Camille Howard

Welcome, readers, to this week’s edition of The Dragon’s Den! We’ve had a full week at WHS, so let’s get on the trampoline and jump right in!

The Student Council has started its community service off strong and early, beginning their first service project this week. The student council’s beginning of the year food drive brings to attention that you don’t need a holiday to help the needy. Students can bring canned goods, toiletries, and other non-perishable items to the school up until October 4th, so donate, donate, donate!

Wednesday was not only a half-day, but it was also school picture day. Students got dressed in their picture day best and smiled for the camera. This day always puts the first thoughts of yearbook in the student body’s head, and although we don’t get our yearbooks until June, they’ll be available for preorder soon.

The Athletics department has been getting into the full swing of things. This week, sole Woodland High School track runner, Scott Boies, ran in his second meet of the season. The race was held in Lee, and against 60 other runners, he finished in 30th! His next meet will be on Wednesday, the 25th, in Machias. Best of luck, Scott!

The math team had its first meeting of the year this week. This meeting is just a primer; getting team members ready for what math team has in store for them. The WHS math team always does great job representing the school, and we’re sure this year won’t be any different.

The National Honors Society’s Dragon’s Breath 5k will be held next week. If you’re interested in running or walking in the race, you can register by calling the school, or on race day, Saturday the 28th. Registration starts at 7:30 and the race begins at 9, and the first 50 to register will get a Dragon’s Breath 5k T-Shirt. Come out, get some exercise, and support the local NHS!

That just about wraps it up for this week at WHS. We’ll have more news for you, as always, next week. Until then, thanks for checking in!
