Greetings from sunny, breezy and chilly Meddybemps.  We are experiencing the nicest fall conditions.  There still has not been a frost heavy enough to hurt our flowers.  It is amazing that the geraniums and impatiens in our planters on the deck are still budding and flowering.  However, the mornings and late evenings have been cool enough to necessitate wood stove fires to take off the chill. The sights and aromas of each season are welcoming and reassuring as times go by.

Happy birthday to Karen Smith on October 27.  We hear she is now manager of the new Tractor Supply store in Calais.  Congratulations on both counts.  It is good to have Karen back in Meddybemps.  She had a long commute between Meddybemps and her previous job.  Barry and I mark our 32nd wedding anniversary on October 24.  We will celebrate with a day out, dinner and a concert in Bangor in the near future.  Best wishes to everyone else celebrating special occasions in the week to come.

Dennis and Chris Gillespie are enjoying their newest granddaughter, Reyesen Grace Gillespie.  She is the second daughter of their son, Adam and his wife.  Chris and Dennis were helping out with the little girls and have been a bit exhausted with long hours and travel between Meddybemps and Eddington.

There is a lot going on in the area through the end of October.  There is a free Harvest Festival for area children at 2nd Baptist Church in Calais on Friday night, October 25 at 5:30 p.m.; and parents are invited to watch and enjoy the festivities.  There will be food, games, fun, a story and cake walks.  In previous years, each child who attended won their own cake to take home. Children can come in costumes, but no scary witches, devils or evil ones please -- so small children are not frightened.  On Saturday, October 26, also at 2nd Baptist Church, Hyssongs will be in concert starting at 6:30 p.m. with a light meal to follow.  A free will offering will be taken.

A reminder to mark your calendars for the childrens’ Halloween Party, Thursday, October 31 at Meddybemps Community Center from 4:30 to 7 p.m.  Bring your children, grandchildren, neighbor children, nieces and nephews, and little ones who would enjoy this event. It is a safe, warm and fun event sponsored by Meddybemps Community Center and residents.
