The Dragon’s Den

Camille Howard

Welcome back to the Dragon’s den! This week certainly was busy, so let’s pick up our shovels and dig right in!

The sports teams this week really took off. The girls’ basketball team played Shead high school at home on Thursday, and the boys’ team played Shead on Friday. Both teams were defeated, but we can be sure there are victories to come. Also on Thursday, the wrestling team had their first meet of the season at Washington Academy, where freshman Alex Roderick won one of his matches.

On Friday, the WHS chapter of the National Honors Society had their induction ceremony. The society was proud to induct sophomore Sara Boies and junior Kayla Pyles. These two girls represented the best qualities of leadership, scholarship, character, and service. Congratulations to these two girls!!

On Saturday, the members of the Tri-M music honors society traveled around businesses in Calais playing Christmas carols on their instruments. The students prepared several carols, including Silent Night, We Wish you a Merry Christmas, and Good King Winceslas. The students then topped off the evening by going out to eat! This is a fun event that the Tri-M has done for two years now, and is surely becoming traditional for the club to do.

On Saturday, the Patsy’s Peeps Relay for Life team got ready to rumble and hosted a Professional Wrestling event! This event was brought to the team by Global Entertainment Fundraisers, and despite the poor weather, the team had a pretty good turn out, raising over $400! The team, a new  addition to the school, really had a blast planning this event. Thank you to Global Entertainment Fund raisers, and the teams captain, Josie Wallace, for making this event happen.

That’s all we have this week in the Dragon’s Den. We’ll be back next week, the last week before Christmas break, with all the news from WHS. Until then, thanks for checking in!
