Sunday’s snowfall in advance of the 2013 winter solstice was Mother Nature’s reminder that we are heading into the holidays and colder temperatures. With that, comes a higher need for food donations from the public.

Tonya Scott, coordinator of the Woodland Community Food Pantry, says that she has been “praying for help in keeping the cupboards full for the upcoming Christmas holiday.”  She says that a recent cash donation from the St. Croix International Quilters was an answer to her prayers.

“The quilters collect for the food pantry at their December potluck holiday meeting and every attendee’s name is placed into a basket with one name drawn. That member selects the local food pantry to receive the St. Croix International Quilter’s donation for the year,” she explains.

“This year, quilter Liz Trouant’s name was drawn, and she selected our food pantry,” continued Scott.  SCIQ Treasurer Pat Wyeth delivered the cash to Tammy Moody at the Heart 2 Heart Thrift Store in Baileyville and Moody presented the donation to Scott.

The Woodland Community Food Pantry is located on 55 Broadway in Baileyville. It is open the 1st and 4th Thursday of each month from 9 am. To 11 am. For further information, Scott may be reached at (207) 427-6518.
