Calais Bookshop Selects “Dear Life” by Alice Munro For Jan. 8 Reading Group

Calais Bookshop has selected “Dear Life”, by this year’s Nobel Prize winning author, Alice Munro, for its next reading group on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

“Alice Munro’s peerless ability to give us the essence of a life in often brief but always spacious and timeless stories is once again everywhere apparent in this brilliant new collection. In story after story, she illumines the moment a life is forever altered by a chance encounter or an action not taken, or by a simple twist of fate that turns a person out of his or her accustomed path and into a new way of being or thinking,” according to the book’s cover.

Munro also won the prestigious International Booker Award in 2009 and recently announced that she was retiring from writing. This Canadian short story writer has also won the Giller Prize twice (1998, 2004) and the Governor General’s Award three times (1968, 1978, and 1986).

This is the 96th book group in an ongoing reading program available at Calais Bookshop, 405 Main St. Group begins at 5:30 p.m. (U.S. time). For book group schedules and other program information, call 454-1110 or like us on Facebook.
