Bill Entwisle for District Attorney

I am a Democratic candidate for District Attorney for Hancock and Washington Counties. I have been working as an assistant district attorney in this community for over ten years, and before that was in private practice for fifteen years. I have worked as a prosecutor in both counties, which has strengthened my connection to the people of Downeast Maine. I have the background, experience, temperament and work ethic to be an effective advocate for the people of this district.

This is the first time that I have sought elective office. I am running because I want to take a leadership role in continuing the work that the District Attorney's Office has been doing, energetically and fairly enforcing the laws of our state. I look forward to meeting with voters to talk about what our office does and to hear their concerns.

As a prosecutor I have been touched many times by the stories of victims whose lives have been shaken by crime. I am committed to serving their interests by working to obtain a just result. Prosecution of crimes of domestic violence, property crimes, drug offenses and motor vehicle offenses involving public safety are all deserving of our very best efforts.

I grew up in New Jersey and spent summer vacations in Maine. I graduated from Bates College in 1981 with a B.A. in Economics, and from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now New Hampshire School of Law) in 1988. I returned to Maine and began my career as an attorney in Portland. After working in small firms doing commercial law for four years I moved to Hancock County in 1992, where I continued my practice primarily in the areas of family law and real estate. In 2003 I was hired as an assistant district attorney, working for two years in Machias and Calais before settling in the Ellsworth office in 2005.

I have served at different times on the boards of the Downeast Family YMCA, the Maine School of Science and Mathematics Foundation, The Next Step Domestic Violence Project, and on various boards and committees at Blue Hill Congregational Church.

I live in Sedgwick with my wife Margot. We have been married for 27 years. We have three boys; Sam, 24, Noah, 20, and Will, 16.

I can be contacted by email at or by regular mail to PO Box, 1222, Ellsworth, Maine 04605.
