Stage East presents "Dog Eat Dog," by Mary Gallagher, a staged reading at the CCLC

On Saturday, March 8,  at 3:00pm, the Stage East Theater Company of Eastport will present a staged reading of the play, "Dog Eat Dog," by Mary Gallagher, at the Cobscook Community Learning Center.

“Dog Eat Dog” takes place in an affluent suburb in a mid-sized American city, in a "possible future," when the national economy has slid from recession into depression and even worse. The play follows selected families as they try to survive while all is tumbling down, in sometimes hilarious and sometimes genuinely moving ways, as they turn curtains into clothes, dream up new ways to make zucchini appetizing, and fight over jobs they would have spurned in better days. But while told in broad, comic strokes, their story is also a moral tale, for while the times are out of joint, the resourcefulness and resiliency of the people remain strong—and, with this, the conviction that if the spirit is undaunted, renewal and recovery are sure to come in time.

The staged reading will be directed by Michael Brown, a longtime member of Stage East. The cast includes Dave and Suzannah Gale of Lubec, Allan Gore of Calais, and Eastporters Carolee Bier, Greg Biss, Tim Heary, Barbara Smith, and Jenie Smith.

Following the play there will be a soup and bread supper. Cost for the show and supper: $10.00.
