Indian Township

Donna Meader-York

The Indian Township School Book Fair was quite a success! Although the school does not earn Scholastic dollars for the BOGO book fair, it is still wonderful to know that over $4000.00 worth of books are in the hands of our kids, and that our kids love to read!  Congratulations to the 2 door prize winners which were drawn at the end on the book fair.  Annabelle Meader won a set of cookbooks, and Bea Lily won a t-shirt and a fun game for the whole family.

The students are excited about a new group being formed called Fit Kids IV, sponsored by the Indian Township Health Center. Fit Kids will meet every Tuesday from April 15 through June 10 right at early dismissal. Transportation home will be provided by the school.  Fit kids will consist of fun activities and nutrition education to promote a healthy lifestyle. A healthy snack will be provided by the After School Program. All kids in grades 3 through 8 are invited to attend on Tuesdays, and are also encouraged to participate in other physical activities throughout the week.  Incentives and recognition will be given to any child who reaches his or her activity goals. Participation in team sports, and time spent at the Fitness Center will also count toward activity goals. It is important for children to wear proper footwear, and come dressed appropriately for all activities.  Sneakers must be worn! Children will not be allowed to participate if they do not wear sneakers. The following is a list of activities that are scheduled for Tuesdays:

April 15 – Fit Kids Medical Assessment

April 22 – Crab Soccer

April 29 – Indoor snowball fight

May 6 – Kickball

May 13 – Capture the Flag

May 20 – Team Relays

May 27 – Baseball

June 3 – Mud Run practice

June 10 – Mud Run, parents and community members are encouraged to join the Team on the course, help with obstacles, or take pictures.

It sounds like a ton of fun! For further information, you can contact Aaron Dana or Julie Redding at 796-2321.

Thursday, April 17 is movie day! Students will watch The Lorax, and eat popcorn in recognition of a job well done during our Literacy Month and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday celebration. Following lunch, Jump Rope for Heart will take place in the gym. The kids have been working hard collecting pledges, in hopes of the recognition of top pledge taker.  Stop by the gym and support all of our jumpers.  Students will be released at 11:30 Friday, following the annual student / staff volley ball game in which the staff holds the record for winning over the students. Let’s see if their winning streak continues.

The feeling of anticipation surrounds us as we wait (impatiently?) for spring to arrive, and for April break. April break begins on Monday April 21, and children return to school on Monday April 28. In the mean time, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter, and until next week, take care of you, and keep learning!
