The construction of Tim Hortons at 283 North Street is moving forward to meet its mid-October grand opening date, owner Bob Cousins told The Calais Advertiser.  “Winter was harsh”, he said, “which slowed construction; however crews have been working steadily to complete the 2,300 square foot cafe and bakeshop.”  Cousins confirmed he has already hired one manager with two assistants who will lead a team of 25 full- and part-time employees to be hired.

The site plans presented last fall to the city’s planning board showed a drive-thru window and a patio for outside seating during warmer months.  Additionally, the parking lot will include 32 parking spaces and an entrance/exit on both North and Garfield Streets.

According to its website, Tim Hortons is a quick-service restaurant chain known for its doughnuts and coffee and began in 1964.  The company currently has 4,546 restaurants, including 3,630 in Canada and 866 in the United States and 50 in other regions, as of June 29, 2014.  In addition to Maine, the chain currently is located in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Along with Tim Hortons coffee, the restaurant offers dozens of doughnut products, as well as cakes, pies, croissants, soups, and sandwiches and other items.  It is a stand-alone public company trading on the Toronto Sock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.  Tim Hortons corporate head office is in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
