Trahan to Keynote Pro-Bear Hunting Rally Sept. 19

The Washington County Republican Committee (WCGOP) will be holding a rally in support of Maine’s bear hunt September 19 at its county office -- across from Johnson’s Town Line in East Machias – from 3:30 – 5PM.

“Washington County is the heart of bear country,” WCGOP chair Chris Gardner said. “This November, Mainers will seal the fate of the bear hunt if they vote to ban baiting, trapping, and hounding. They will put local guides out of business, send a message that we are not really serious about adventure recreation, and they will impact all those local businesses that serve hunters after Labor Day. We think that’s the wrong message to be sending, and would encourage anyone who feels the same way, or who is unsure about how they’re going to vote, to come out and hear us out. We’ve got an excellent group of speakers lined up, highlighted by [former state Senator] David Trahan of SAM.”

Other speakers include outdoorsmen George “Bubba” Eaton of Lubec and Mike Look of East Machias, as well as State Senator David Burns, Rep. Joyce Maker, and East Machias selectman Will Tuell, who is running for House District 139. Additional speakers are being confirmed.

“Come out, show your support, learn about the bear referendum, and why it matters to Washington County,” Gardner urged. “Let’s show the out of state special interests what local people can do when we put our minds together!”

Following the rally, Trahan will also be speaking at the Washington County GOP meeting at the Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant in Machias at 6pm. For tickets, please RSVP to WCGOP secretary Will Tuell at 255-8056 or  email will@willtuell.com
