For the fourth consecutive year during the holiday season, Stacey LeBlanc, owner of Hair Masters, along with her staff, have worked a day where all proceeds have been donated to charity.  Last Sunday, such was the case again.

Several from the community stopped in for hair cuts, colors, and styles, just like any other day; however, on this particular day, all proceeds were donated to two worthy causes:  Operation Christmas Joy and the Lungs for Ashley Campaign.

"Operation Christmas Joy," Leblanc explained, "is an organization in St. Stephen that provides a Christmas to families who have been experiencing a hardship.  This progra m assists families on both sides of the border."  The program provides children's toys, stocking stuffers, children's clothing, family games, and family food baskets.

Leblance also explained the Lungs for Ashley Campaign.  "Ashley Durand is a young lady originally from this area.  She was born with cystic fibrosis so the money raised today will help her with costs associated with her upcoming lung transplant."  Durand, age 28, was referred to Brigham and Women's Lung Transplant Program and after two long years of testing and proving herself both mentally and physically strong enough, she has been approved and listed for a double lung transplant.

Durand's surgery will be covered by health insurance; however, many costs associated with the transplant will not be.  This includes transportation to Boston, gas, food, lodging, among medications, among many others.  Additionally, Durand will be required to live in Boston following the transplant to ensure her safety and easy access to the transplant team while her body heals and begins to accept the new lungs.

Several generous people took advantage of Hair Masters' fundraising efforts, and many, Leblanc said, made donations leading up to the event.  Those wishing to still make a donation can stop in anytime during regular business hours to do so.
