Friends Group Holds Seed Planting Party

The new Cooper Community Center Friends organization held its first event, a seed planting party, on Saturday, April 25th at the Center.  Long tables were laden with a variety of arts and crafts materials, pots, planting medium, and seeds.  Children and adults alike enjoyed decorating pots and planting seeds.  Refreshments were available and the children went home with their pretty pots excited and looking forward to watching their seeds grow.  Plans are in the works for a transplanting party in mid-May so kids can learn how to care for seedlings.

Afterward, the group held a business meeting and welcomed new members.  The surveys that were mailed to area residents to find out what kinds of events and activities they would like to have at the center, were discussed.  Plans are underway for a Flag Day benefit supper with a plant sale and community yard sale.  Other ideas and plans for events in the next few months include a summer fest all day event including a fishing derby, a beach party-picnic at the Cooper Town Beach, followed by a dance at the community center; a benefit supper for the fire department; scrap booking; basket making; quilting workshops; and several others.

After a number of items of business were discussed, the next meeting was set for May 30th to finalize plans for the Flag Day event.  Check out our Facebook page at Cathance Cooper Friend.  Anyone interested in getting involved in the group’s activities, please contact us at 454-7383 or email us at kathleen.hull7@gmail.com
