Calais High School

Welcome Back! After a refreshing Thanksgiving break staff and students have returned to Calais High School to begin the month of December. Some news from last week, the winners of the Blue Crew’s drawing for those who donated canned goods that will be delivered to the local food pantry were drawn. The winners took home cash prizes, movie passes, candy, candles, notecards, and hot chocolate. Thank you to all those who donated items, the cause is one that is especially relevant this time of year.

Last weekend both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled to Presque Isle to participate in a pre-season tournament. Both teams had strong showings and gave us a glimpse of what is to come this season.

In preparation for the upcoming holiday, the Student Council has begun raising money for its annual Rock-a-thon. Members solicit donations and  pledges for six hours worth of continuous rocking in their rocking chairs. This money goes to buy gifts for kids who will be spending the holiday season at the local children’s project. If you wish to donate, please contact a student council member.

This Thursday the CHS band hosts its annual December Pops concert. The concert begins at 7:00 PM and has proven to be a staple of the holiday season in Calais. This year is sure to be as exciting as ever as the band performs for the first time under the direction of the schools’ new music teacher, Mr. Plaistead.

That is all for this week’s news from Calais High School.
