Baileyville Police Chief Bob Fitzsimmons is always up to something good, and this Saturday, he's got big plans for a big event at Walmart.

From 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Chief Fitzsimmons reported, he and Cpl. Pooh from Baileyville Police Department will be at the Calais Walmart.  They certainly won't be patrolling the area, although they are always available when needed.  Instead, the department's cruiser will be parked for the first "Fill the Cruiser" holiday event.

People are invited to shop for less fortunate area children and help stuff the police vehicle full of gifts.  All of the items collected will be distributed to children right here in our local area.  "We will be donating to the People's United Methodist Church in Baileyville and the Let's All Have a Merrier Christmas program," he said.

Chief Fitzsimmons is looking for various items to fill the cruiser.  "We are looking for donations of all types of new toys and books for all ages and new children's clothing," he said.  The clothing can be anything from pajamas and socks to outerwear like hats, mittens, snowsuits, coats, and boots.

"I have seen this event done in other places in the past and thought that folks here have the biggest hearts of anywhere so I see no reason why it wouldn't work," Chief Fitzsimmons explained.  "I contacted Laura Donovan at Walmart and they were happy to help us out."

Chief Fitzsimmons is hoping for a tremendous turnout and would love to make this an annual event.  "Santa and I have been friends for a long time," he stated, and by the sounds of things, Chief Fitzsimmons will again remain on Santa's nice list.
