Calais High School has been busy lately with multiple teams traveling around the state to compete in various activities. The academic decathlon team returned from their annual trip to the state competition placing fifth. Some members returned home having won medals in various categories. These students are Riley Sluzenski, Isaac Johnson, and Dylan Carrier. Congratulations to the team on their great showing this year. 

Another competition followed in the form of the Skills USA competition. The annual event brings students together from various technical centers from across Maine. This year Calais was well represented with two members placing. Mayez Travis placed third in prepared speech and Eli Whiteman came in first in the category of job training. He was required to teach a partner gone to complete a task and repeat it successfully in a limited amount of time. Eli taught his partner how to play a song on the guitar and was so successful in doing so he placed first, earning himself a trip to the national competition in Kentucky this June. 


This week the National Honor Society will be traveling to Orono to attend their state conference. Student council is also busy at work preparing for their upcoming Hunger Games. The annual dinner raises money for the local food pantry and serves to increase awareness of the issues of hunger and poverty. The dinner will be held the twelfth, tickets will be on sale soon.
