Indian Township

I hope everyone had a blessed holiday with loved ones and family. Despite the snow storm last week, spring is definitely in the air. We are anxious to get outside!

Last week, the After School Program took some children to the Cross Center for the 2nd Annual Science Festival. The children were totally engaged during their whole visit. I am told that the highlight of the trip was the viewing of a real human brain. We have already decided that we want to return next year.

On Monday April 4, the Book Fair opens at ITS. Monday evening, coinciding with our Math night, the Book Fair will have its usual Family Night with raffles and cookies! This is the Buy One Get One Free Book Fair, so it is a great time to stock up for summer reading. Also on Monday April 4, we are having STEAM Night. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Steam Night will be held in the Gym from 3:30, to 5:30, and light refreshments will be served. We planned it this way to make it more convenient to attend both events.

There are lots of fun things happening at the After School Program. Students are learning to bead, and yesterday, thanks to Barry Dana who is working with the WaYS program, taught students how to make rope from the bark of a Basswood tree. We are hoping to make a fishing net with this rope in time.

We are proud to announce the creation of our school web page. There you will find a calendar for events, news, and pictures of past happenings. Explore and give us feedback. There is even a page to contact staff. The web address is www.indiantownshipschool.net.

That’s all the news for this week. Until next week, take care, and never stop learning.
