Mother’s Day is a day devoted to celebrating mothers and expressing love for the special women in our lives.  We owe Mother’s Day to West Virginia native Anna Jarvis who held a memorial for her mother two years after the latter’s death in 1905.  After the memorial, Jarvis devoted her efforts to a campaign to make Mother’s Day a nationally recognized holiday.

A Mother’s Day Breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 7th at St. Anne’s Parish Hall.  All you can eat for $8 from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

Also at St. Anne’s is the Mt. View Chamber Singers Spring Concert.  This is scheduled for Friday, May 13th at 7:00 pm.

Baby Day will be held on May 11th at Calais Regional Hospital from 3:30 to 4:30.  A baby quilt was donated to the coffee shop for sale by Gilda McPhee.

A Service of Remembrance for Rachael Bartlett was held on Sunday at S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home.  Burial was held at Old Ridge Cemetery.  Her beautiful family and great friends gathered to say their farewells.  A peaceful, sunny day it was.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Kay Gaddis, mother of Jo Anne Spinney.  She was a lovely lady.  A mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 6th at the Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00 am.

Congratulations to Betty Whittaker on receiving a scholarship at University of Maine at Machias.

Congratulations to Hannah Sivret, Maine Cherry Blossom Princess to the National Conference of State Societies, Washington, D.C.

All the best to Tyler Provencher who graduates on May 14th.

Pastor Meyers and his wife are taking a mission trip to Africa.

I talked with Andrea (Brooks) Moore.  She is recuperating from brain aneurysms.  She still has swelling but is mending slowly.

Eunice Dineen is a patient at the Portland hospital.  Dayton is headed down.  She will have some tests and I hope all goes well.

The St. Stephen Farmers’ Market will be opening on Friday, May 6th on the downtown waterfront, providing weather is sunny.

A giant yard sale will be held on Saturday, May 14th beginning at 9:00 am at the Perry Congregational Church.
