Just South of the Border and its staff have been awarded for a second year in a row by TripAdvisor. Back row, left to right: Jenny Chambers, Neil Wade, Gary Young, Stefan Peterson (with Bear). Front row, left to right: Antony Noyes, Jen Perry, Barbara Young, Mikie (with Moose), Christopher O’bar. Not shown: Amy Hold, Kathleen Clement, Mitch Spear, Alan McMaster.

For the second year in a row, Just South of the Border on Main Street has been recognized for its outstanding service and Mexican-themed food by TripAdvisor. The restaurant received a plaque commemorating the award that showcased selected comments from reviewers.

Diners commented that “The staff is always friendly and attentive,” “It’s all fresh and homemade,” and that “Portion sizes are enormous and their margaritas are delicious.”

While owner Gary Young was pleased to accept the award for the second year in a row, he said it would not be possible without the efforts of his staff. “It speaks very highly of them. They’ve all worked hard to keep this award.” Young has a staff of twelve employees in the restaurant, which has been operating for several years.

In the interest of keeping things fresh in the restaurant, there are a few new additions to the menu. Diners are now able to enjoy a soup of the day, which may be fish chowder, broccoli cheddar, chicken noodle, or vegetable beef. Those who can’t decide between a beef or chicken nacho bowl can now get a combination of the two, realized in the ultimate nacho bowl. Chicken alfredo and a chicken and rice burrito have also recently joined the menu, which also now clearly indicates gluten free items.

The restaurant has received several renovations recently, including a remodeled kitchen, new floors, and refinished seats. The atmosphere is now brighter and suitable for a family-friendly outing. The outdoor seating area is being rapidly overhauled in preparation of the International Festival, which will feature numerous live bands.

Outdoor music during the festival will start on Wednesday with DJ Gordy. On Thursday, country music star Meghan Clark will be singing from 4 pm to 7 pm. On Friday, award-winning blues band Juke Rockets will play into the evening from 9 pm to midnight, returning Saturday to play from 1 pm to 4 pm. Saturday evening, classic rock band Atlantic Breeze will play from 8 pm to midnight, and on Sunday, Butch Hanson’s band will play in the afternoon from 1 to 4 pm.
