Congratulations to Carly Davis.  She just received word that she will be interning at the main Wildlife Park in Gray, Maine one day a week while attending Unity College and playing soccer for them.  Carly is the daughter of Karen and Jim Davis of Alexander.

Several folks have been home visiting family the past week. Traveling from Florida were Teresa (Holst) Eliason, her husband Pat and children Jack and Casey. They have been visiting family and friends and  enjoying the local ATV trails and fishing.

Adam Knowles traveled from California to spend time with his family and friends. While home Adam played in the Calais Alumni Basketball game, and attending his CHS Class Reunion.  He helped to celebrate his brother John’s birthday and just spend time relaxing on Pleasant Lake and Meddybemps Lake with his family.  Adam is the son of John Knowles of Alexander and Laura Jean Lord of Meddybemps.

Also seen around town was Tom Tozier.  While home in Maine Tom became engaged to Megan Contreras.  Tom is the son of David and Esther Tozier of Crawford, Maine.

Congratulations to Sophie Archer for winning the Spotlight Saturday Contest Pet of the week on Facebook.  Sophie’s proud parents are Jennifer and Mike Archer.

Alexander’s own comedian, Brian Giles, is in the midst of preparing for a Comedy Show to be held on August 13th at the Calais Motor Inn. If you want more information or tickets contact Brian or check out his Facebook page.

This week the AES Summer Library was busy and full of fun.  Kids were able to sign out books, paint their pinch pots from the previous week, work on doing some beading and played with stickers.  Lots of folks brought picnic lunches and gathered together in the gym where it was a bit cooler to enjoy a leisurely lunch.  Then everyone got special treats that included fruit gummies and popsicles.  Two more weeks left, next week will include rock painting, come dressed to paint!  You can bring your own favorite rock and there will also be rocks available if you forget.  And again if you wish bring a picnic lunch if you so choose.

The Alexander Grange met on August 3rd for their regular meeting.  The meeting went quite smoothly and quickly.  The Lecturer’s program was about strawberries, each Granger left with a handout about strawberries, a recipe for strawberry bread and a strawberry air freshener. The program ended with the promise to make ice cream sundaes, yup strawberry sundaes.  It was a great deal of fun too, as each person made their own individual bag of homemade ice cream, the experiment was a success!  There was a whole lot of shaking going on.  It takes about 5-10 minutes, just shake until it is hard. Don’t forget to rinse the salt water of the inner bag before eating, right Lenny?

Looks like there will be a benefit for the family of David McVicar on August 27th. Folks are gathering to make plans.  The time has been set from 10-2, at the Grange.  Lunch will be served, activities for the kids and a Chinese Auction.  More details to come as they become available.

It has been an interesting week for sure.  This week at the Beckett Center we tried hard to stay cool by going the Robbinston Boat Landing and sitting in the shade.  We had our weekly meal, this time beans and hot dogs. Carlos Jr. left for Florida on Monday, August 1st with his Aunt Crystal and they were about 12 hours into the trip when her car broke down, so his mom had to drive 10 hours to pick him up.  Let’s just say our house was worried about him until we heard that he was safe and sound in Florida.  On Wednesday morning I went to the dentist and my check up wasn’t so good, I have my first cavity ever and after I get back from Camp Capella, I have an appointment to have it filled.
