July Weather Summary: July was a hot month. The monthly mean temperature of 68.7 degrees was 2.9 degrees above normal. This figure tied 2010  for the second hottest July and was beaten only by 0.1 degree in July 2013. This would have easily been the hottest month on record except for the cool stretch from the 7th - 10th. During this period temperatures failed to reach 65 degrees. The daily maximum on the 7th was only 59 degrees or 16 degrees below normal. This figure is the lowest for July since 2009 (7 years). Maximum temperature was 90 degrees on the 15th, while the minimum of 52 degrees occurred on the 11th. There were 17 days with maximums 80 degrees or higher (only 2 days shy of the all time record set in July 2014). There were 27 heating degree days or 14 below normal. Total cooling degree days for the season stands at 170 or 67 above normal. 

While many surrounding areas were dry in July, we were blessed with ample rainfall. Total was 5.21 inches or 1.79 inches above normal. This was the wettest month since 5.88 inches fell in February. Total precipitation since January now stands at 28.60 inches or 1.72 inches below normal. Hourly maximum of .73 inches occurred during a heavy thunderstorm on the 7th. Maximum daily amount was 1.64 inches on the 7th. This was the greatest daily amount since 2.70 inches fell on January 10th. There were 13 days with measurable precipitation. Even with a wet July, stream flow was still a bit low due to several previous dry months.

 

Highest barometer was 30.17 inches on the 17th, while the lowest was 29.59 inches on the 22nd. Mean relative humidity was 78.5 per cent with the lowest humidity reaching 36 percent on the 3rd. Prevailing winds were south-southwest with an average speed of 2.3 miles per hour. Peak gusts was 31 miles per hour from the west-southwest on the 3rd. There were 4 clear days, 17 partly cloudy days, and 10 cloudy days. Daytime sky cover averaged 65 percent. There were 6 days with dense fog and 7 days with thunder (7th, 12th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 28th).
