Calais City Council Meeting

By Michael R. Brown

Except for a list of items presented by City Manager Jim Porter, little definite business was transacted at the council meeting on September 8th. Mostly councilors talked quietly among themselves regarding necessary committee meetings and property issues.

Parks and Recreation reported fundraising of $152,000 aimed at maintenance and improvements. Approval was voted for “Art Along the Waterfront,” September 24th  and the “Scarecrow Fest,” October 26 to 29th. Requests for bids on paving at the pool and winter sand and gravel will go out.

An attempt by the council to sway the Department of Health and Human Services from closing the Calais office was unproductive.
