Alexander Elementary School is open and things are already happening.  Thank you, Mrs. McDonough for the Friday announcements and Mrs. Hill for some other tidbits.

The first week of school is done. Here are some helpful tips. Make sure your child/children get plenty of rest. Check backpacks for Friday announcements. Make sure your child has sneakers for the play ground. Send a snack with your child if possible. Due to major changes in the program the school will no longer host the Scholastic Book Fair, so children will be bringing home a scholastic book order form. They can get these from their teachers.

On September 9th Alexander Elementary School will be having their Second Annual Honoring Our Hero’s 9/11 event from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In case of rain the “Honoring our Hero’s celebration will take place on September 12th.

Keep those Box Tops for Education coming. They are worth cash money to the school and all the funds are used for services to the kids.  AES also accepts empty in cartridges and cell phones for recycling.  You can drop them off at AES during school hours or at Randy’s Variety or if you want to mail them, AES, 1430 Airline Road, Alexander Maine.

The Campbell Soup Label Program has ended their label collection program. With what labels we had left, we got some new play ground balls, 2 tether balls and 2 ball net bags. Over the years the school acquired many things from that program. Thank you to all who cut and saved over the years.

Mark you calendars for September 21st as it will be early dismissal at AES at 11:15.  Lunch will be served before dismissal and there will be no after-school program.

Students who are participating in the cross country team will need to have a signed permission slip, a current physical on file at the school office and are asked to have a note sent if they are staying for practices as this will help alleviate calls home disrupting teaching and class time during the day.  Be watching for a schedule. The first meet will be September 14.

The annual craft fair is being planned, more information coming soon! Stay tuned.

There will be an open house on September 15th from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Come visit your child’s classroom and see the changes in the building!

The second and third grade classroom is looking for buttons and Legos. If you have either, please let Mrs. Hill know.  Mrs. McCutcheon’s pre-k class is looking for empty grated cheese containers for sorting and fine motor skills,   Items can be dropped off during school hours or as always left at Randy’s Variety.

There is an upcoming Open House Night in the works and it will be announced this week.
