The next Cooper Select Board meetings will be held on Saturday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 17th from 8:00 am to 9:00 am.  The next Cooper Planning Board meeting will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00 am. Town office hours of operation have been changed to 4:30-6:30 pm on the first and third Thursday of each month and by appointment as necessary.  The regular office hours for December are scheduled for Thursday, December 1st and Thursday, December 15th from 4:30-6:30 pm.  I want to remind everyone that it is time to stop by the office and register your dogs.  All dogs must be registered by January 31, 2016 to avoid late fees.

Real Estate Tax payments are due by December 1, 2016.  If you have a tractor your tractor excise will be due with your property tax bills by December 1, 2016.  The Select Board has resolved the question regarding excise taxes for tractors.  Tractor excise will be $50.00 for tractors that are 1-5 years old; $25.00 for tractors that are 5-10 years old; and $15.00 for tractors that are over 10 years old.  You can mail the excise for your tractor in with your real estate tax payment by 12/1/16 by paying during regular office hours or by sending to Laurie Pike, Tax Collector at 152 N. Union Road, Cooper, Maine, 04694.

The Cooper Community Center Friends held a jelly roll quilt tote bag workshop on Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with Marcia Carlow and the Friend’s Café provided refreshments during the event.  Word is that the class was a great success and enjoyed so much that another one is planned in the future.

The Veteran’s Day Holiday held on Friday, November 11th was also a big success.  I traveled to Bangor that day and enjoyed a beautiful meal provided by the Olive Garden Restaurant to honor Veterans.  Maine has a very high ratio of Veterans per adult resident when compared to the rest of the nation.  As of 2016, there are 122,930 Veterans living in the State of Maine.  Maine is one of the top five states in the country with the highest concentration of Veterans compared to the overall population of our state. Of the Veterans living in the State of Maine there are 91,594 war time Veterans compiled of 37,498 Gulf War Veterans; 43,078 Vietnam Veterans; 10,055 Korean War Veterans; and 4376 World War II Veterans.  In addition to the war time Veterans, there are 31,336 Peace Time Veterans. I’m sure it is not a surprise to anyone that of the 122,930 Veterans in the State of Maine, there are 10,081 female Veteran’s and 112,848 male veterans.  Currently elected to provide services to the Town of Cooper are three of those female Veterans including Treasurer, Rachel Ackley of the United States Marines; Tax Collector, Laurie Pike of the United States Marines; and Kathleen Hull of the United States Navy.  Other Veterans from the Town of Cooper willing to have their names published include:  United States Army Tom Brown, Justin Day, Willis Day, David Timpe, and Donna Timpe; United States Air Force, Lenny Dodge, David Crosby, and William Krider Sr.; United States Marines, Dan Donaghy; and for the windfall the United States Navy including Eric Flood, Ralph Flood, Norman Howe, Travis Hull, Scott Jamieson, George Seidel, and Robert Smith.  I am very proud to be a part of this group of Maine Veterans.  Thank you all for your service!
