Long time Cooper resident, Sandy Lyon, is traveling to Brewer every three weeks for chemotherapy treatment at Cancer Care of Maine for Lymphoma.  Her treatment began in September and will likely continue until sometime in January.  At this time, with her immune system compromised, Sandy must stay at home and limit exposure to others.  Sandy has been out of work since early September, so the Meddybemps Christian Association and her coworkers at Indian Township Elementary School had a benefit for her on November 19th at the Meddybemps Community Center.  Anyone who may have missed the benefit but who still wishes to provide financial support to Sandy during her recovery, please contact her sister, Marcia Wheelock at 214-9553.  I know that many local churches have been praying for Sandy’s recovery but please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

The next Cooper Select Board meetings will be held on Saturday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 17th from 8:00 am to 9:00 am.  The next Cooper Planning Board meeting will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:00 am. Town office hours of operation have been changed to 4:30-6:30 pm on the first and third Thursday of each month and by appointment as necessary.  The regular office hours for December are scheduled for Thursday, December 1st and Thursday, December 15th from 4:30-6:30 pm.  I want to remind everyone that it is time to stop by the office and register your dogs.  All dogs must be registered by January 31, 2016 to avoid late fees.

Real Estate Tax payments are due by December 1, 2016.  If you have a tractor, your tractor excise will be due with your property tax bills by December 1, 2016.  The Select Board has resolved the question regarding excise taxes for tractors.  Tractor excise will be $50.00 for tractors that are 1-5 years old; $25.00 for tractors that are 5-10 years old; and $15.00 for tractors that are over 10 years old.  You can mail the excise for your tractor in with your real estate tax payment by 12/1/16 by paying during regular office hours or by sending to Laurie Pike, Tax Collector at 152 N. Union Road, Cooper, Maine, 04694.

The Cooper Community Center Friends has planned a Christmas Party on December 10th from 1:00-4:00 pm for adults and children at the Cooper Community Center.  Everyone is welcome to attend and the Friends Café will be providing Christmas eats and drinks to enjoy while John Viselli entertains everyone with some Christmas music for the event.  Fun activities include decorating Christmas Cookies, making bird seed decorations for the outdoor tree and to feed your birds at home, and town tree decorating and lighting.  In keeping with the natural theme, the tree lights will be solar lights this year.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and ate their fill of turkey and all the fixings and that loved ones were close by to enjoy it together with their families.
