Annual Weather Summary for 2016: The annual mean temperature of 45.8 degrees was 1.8 degrees above normal. Ten out of the twelve months were near or above normal in temperature. The hottest day was 90 degrees on July 15th, while the coldest day was minus 8 degrees on December 16th. This is the first time since 1998 (18 years) that the yearly minimum temperature occurred in December! There were 44 days with maximums 80 degrees or above, 44 days with maximums 32 or below, 152 days with minimums 32 or below, and 8 days with minimums zero or below. Warmest daily minimum temperature was 65 degrees on July 15th, while the coldest daily maximum was 5 degrees on December 16th. The warmest daily mean temperature was 77.5 degrees on July 15th, while the coldest daily mean was minus 1.5 degrees on December 16th. Earliest ice day (maximum temperature 32 or less) fell on December 4th, while the latest ice day fell on April 5th (ties with latest date set inĀ  1995 and 2001).Earliest freeze occurred on October 15th, while the latest freeze fell on May 1st. Growing season came to 166 days.

Total precipitation was 47.95 inches or 8.06 inches below normal. This was the 4th driest year in 22 years of record and the driest in 12 years! Daily maximum amount was 2.70 inches on January 10th. There were 150 days with measurable precipitation. Longest wet spell of 7 days occurred from May 2nd - 8th, while the longest dry spell of 10 days occurred from April 13th - 22nd. This was the time of the Red Flag Warnings.

Total annual snowfall came to 80.4 inches or 16.5 inches below normal. Maximum daily amount was 12.4 inches on February 5th. There were 40 days with measurable snowfall. There were 92 days with depths of an inch or more and 16 days with depths of a foot or more. Maximum snow depth was 21 inches on February 11th. The longest continuous snow cover with an inch or more was 60 days (December 27, 2015 to February 24, 2016). Earliest snow of a trace occurred on October 28th, while the latest occurred on May 16th (2nd latest on record)!

Highest barometer of 30.82 inches occurred on December 26th, while the lowest barometer of 28.78 inches occurred on December 30th. This was the lowest figure since 28.64 inches on February 14, 2014! Lowest humidity of 18 percent fell on April 21st during the Red Flag period. Prevailing winds for the year were West (107 days). Peak gust was 64 miles per hour on February 16th (2nd highest for the month of February). There were 10 days with peak winds 40 mph or higher. There were 70 clear days, 116 partly cloudy days, and 180 cloudy days. Daytime sky cover averaged 67 percent. There were 42 days with heavy fog, while there were 17 days in which one or more thunderstorms occurred.
