Our winter days continue with visions of ice fishing and other fun winter activities. The Passamaquoddy Language classes in grades 3, 4, and 5 are learning ice fishing terms in Passamaquoddy, and the names of all the fish that are native to our waters. When weather permits, they will be on the ice, fishing and saving their catch for a fish fry at the end of the teaching unit.

Last week, Mad Science of Maine visited our school. A South Portland based program, Mad Science of Maine travels to schools all over the state to spark children’s imagination in science. Program director Taryn Friedman worked with students in Kindergarten through grade 6 with some hands on science activities, which the children seemed to enjoy immensely! We look forward to the possibility of Taryn returning this summer.

The After School program in partnership with Food Corp held an activity last Monday after school. Students in grades 3 through 8 were invited to participate in potato stamping. The kids made some awesome stamps, and learned about how our ancestors made colors from plants and flowers. Our friend Samantha from Food Corp even made some dye from beets to share with our potato stamps! We look forward to our next activity with Sam.

That’s all the news for this week. Until next time, Take care, and never stop learning!
